The first raise of the debt ceiling:
House passes trillion-dollar bill to keep government funded through September
Vote kicks bill to Senate with time to approve it before midnight Friday deadline as White House says Trump will sign measure despite lack of border wall funds.
The House has passed a $1.1tn bill to fund the US government through the end of September, the first significant piece of bipartisan legislation of Donald Trump’s presidency.
Trump boasted: “This is what winning looks like.”

Wenn man seinen Mund nicht kontrollieren kann:
Trump Tells Australian PM: ‘You Have Better Health Care Than We Do’
During a meeting Thursday night with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, President Donald Trump praised Australia’s universal health care system.
He made the comments while insisting that Republicans are “united” in their push to repeal Obamacare and praising the legislation passed by the House on Thursday.
Australia has a universal, government-funded health care system called Medicare. Australians are able to go to the hospital and see doctors free of charge under the system, but citizens there must purchase private insurance for some medical services. The system is partially funded by taxes, including an additional tax on wealthy Australians who do not have private health insurance.
The legislation passed by House Republicans on Thursday, meanwhile, makes major cuts to Medicaid and an analysis of the original bill by the Congressional Budget Office in March projected that the bill would cost 24 million people their health insurance within ten years.

TRUMP SUPPORTERS CELEBRATE IMMINENT LOSS OF THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE
Moments after House Republicans voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act on Thursday, millions of Trump supporters celebrated the imminent loss of their health insurance.
From coast to coast, Americans who cast their votes for Donald J. Trump expressed jubilation at finally being relieved of the burden of being insured in the event of catastrophic illness.
“Ever since President Trump was inaugurated, I’ve been counting the days for him to take away my health insurance,” Carol Foyler, a Trump supporter in Houston, said. “Today I just want to say thank you, Mr. President, for keeping your promise.”
Harland Dorrinson, a Trump voter from Tallahassee, Florida, said that he was “excited as hell about losing my health insurance” but sounded a more cautious note.
“I just hope the Senate doesn’t come in and give me back my health coverage,” he said. “Right now this all feels too good to be true.”.
Most Trump supporters, however, would not let such gloomy predictions about the future ruin what for them was a day of unbridled celebration.
“Knowing that Trump could take away my Obamacare makes me feel super optimistic about what he’s capable of,” Tracy Klugian, of Columbus, Ohio, said. “I can’t wait until he gets rid of my Medicare.”

Trump fires first Black female White House usher in latest act of vengeance against Obama
Donald Trump suddenly and mysteriously fired the White House usher, the first Black woman to hold the position, who was hired by President Obama. Trump's action follows his pattern of lashing out at people and initiatives connected to his far more popular predecessor.
...Saddled with low support in opinion polling ever since he took the job, Trump has been working overtime to scrub the legacy of President Obama, the first black president.
In addition to his assault on the health care law and insurance coverage put in place for 24 million Americans, Trump has also shut down a program implemented by former first lady Michelle Obama to educate young girls around the world.
When he isn’t promoting unfounded conspiracy theories about Obama, Trump has also targeted key figures who worked in the Obama administration. He has demonstrated his ongoing obsession with former Secretary State Hillary Clinton, who beat him in the popular vote by 3 million votes, and has smeared former UN ambassador Susan Rice while attempting to distract from his own failures.
The Obama legacy can’t be purged by any of Trump’s petulant actions, but his behavior is a telling indicator of the inadequacy he feels when compared to his predecessor.

Senate To Trump Allies: Turn Over Records Of Communications With Russia
According to the Times, the Senate committee requested records of all meetings, emails, text messages and phone calls these individuals had with Russian officials or businessmen from June 16, 2015 to Jan. 20, 2017. It also asked for information about financial or real estate holdings the former Trump advisers may have that are linked to Russia.
The Senate and House Intelligence Committees are both investigating the Trump campaign’s potential ties to Russia, as is the FBI.

Ein langer Artikel aber sehr lesenswert. Fuer den, den die Realitaet interessiert.
Where are they now? The Russian bots that disrupted the 2016 election
Russia-linked social media bots played a big role in online conversation about the election. Here’s what they’ve been up to since.
https://thinkprogress.org/russian-bots-w...ow-e2674c19017b
By using Western ideals of free press and expression against themselves, as an example of how democracy is flawed, bots can sow widespread discord.
“That begins to degrade our ability to communicate with each other. It makes our discourse way more toxic, so we’re frequently more angry, more combative. That plays into Russian goals, which is to facilitate division within the United States,” Bergmann said.
“Even if Trump didn’t win…For the Russians, they won either way.”
It’s also a national security risk. Trump’s White House has a track record of elevating fake news as fact, which has serious consequences for foreign relations and public policy-making. Repeating fake news from the highest seat of U.S. government helps create an alliance with Russia’s agenda.
In his March testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, former FBI agent and counter-terrorism expert Clinton Watts said Trump and his campaign aides have repeatedly “parroted” Russian propaganda. In turn, the state-linked accounts tend to post at “high volumes” when they know Trump is online so that their conspiracy theories will gain traction.
“[Trump] denies the intel from the United States about Russia. He claimed that the election could be rigged; that was the number one theme pushed by RT, Sputnik news,” Watts said. “Until we get a firm basis on fact and fiction in our own country, get some agreement about the facts… we’re going to have a big problem.”
And when a rumor broadcast as fact is repeated by the highest elected government officials, it causes division among the population — some of whom want to believe it and others who know it’s false. ...
...Russia’s disinformation campaign even covers U.S. financial markets, using fake stories to cause dips in stocks and make the U.S. economy seem as fragile as Russia’s, Watts said during his testimony.
“Russian propaganda sometime peddles false financial stories, causing rapid shifts in U.S. company stock prices that hurt consumer and investor confidence and open the way for predatory market manipulation and short selling. At times, U.S. business employees unwittingly engage with Russian social-media hecklers and honeypots putting themselves and their companies at risk,” he said.

Curious Trump team query now seen as Russia warning sign
In late November, a member of Donald Trump’s transition team approached national security officials in the Obama White House with a curious request: Could the incoming team get a copy of the classified CIA profile on Sergey Kislyak, Russia’s ambassador to the United States?
Marshall Billingslea, a former Pentagon and NATO official, wanted the information for his boss, Michael Flynn, who had been tapped by Trump to serve as White House national security adviser. Billingslea knew Flynn would be speaking to Kislyak, according to two former Obama administration officials, and seemed concerned Flynn did not fully understand he was dealing with a man rumored to have ties to Russian intelligence agencies.
To the Obama White House, Billingslea’s concerns were startling: a member of Trump’s own team suggesting the incoming Trump administration might be in over its head in dealing with an adversary.
The request now stands out as a warning signal for Obama officials who would soon see Flynn’s contacts with the Russian spiral into a controversy that would cost him his job and lead to a series of shocking accusations hurled by Trump against his predecessor’s administration.
In the following weeks, the Obama White House would grow deeply distrustful of Trump’s dealing with the Kremlin and anxious about his team’s ties. The concern — compounded by surge of new intelligence, including evidence of multiple calls, texts and at least one in-person meeting between Flynn and Kislyak — would eventually grow so great Obama advisers delayed telling Trump’s team about plans to punish Russia for its election meddling. Obama officials worried the incoming administration might tip off Moscow, according to one Obama adviser.
The Trump White House declined to comment.
This account of the closing days of the Obama administration is based on interviews with 11 current and former U.S. officials, including seven with key roles in the Obama administration. The officials reveal an administration gripped by mounting anxiety over Russia’s election meddling and racing to grasp the Trump team’s possible involvement before exiting the White House. Most of the officials spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to discuss sensitive national security information.
The Obama White House’s role in the Russia controversy will come under fresh scrutiny Monday. Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former deputy Attorney General Sally Yates are slated to testify before lawmakers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, one of three committees investigating Trump’s associates links to Moscow.
Trump has said he has no nefarious ties to Russia and isn’t aware of any involvement by his aides in Moscow’s interference in the election. He’s dismissed an FBI and congressional investigations into his campaign’s possible ties to the election meddling as a “hoax” driven by Democrats bitter over losing the White House.

Trump's son in law's sister Nicole Kushner gave a presentation in China explaining how wealthy investors could immigrate to the US by investing $500,000 in a Kushner real estate project in New Jersey.
When experts warn about the many layers of conflicts of interest that come with the Trumps, this is exactly what they are referring to. Much of the focus on conflicts of interest have rightly centered around the president and his immediate family, but the influence selling and profiteering off the presidency are deeper than the Trump last name.
